This unit features a convenient motion-sensing function that senses when it is night and turns on a dim light throughout the whole night – upon detecting motion the LED lights brighten and will stay bright as long as motion is detected. After 30 seconds of not detecting motion the light will fade back. It will only light-up dimly when it is DARK out and fully brighten when movement is detected. By day it does not light up at all.

Automatically senses movement and light
This unit features 3 automatic lighting levels- OFF / DIM LIGHT / BRIGHT LIGHT-and automatically detects what level of light to apply accordingly. By day the light will automatically shut OFF and will not turn on even if it detects movement. As the sun sets a DIM LIGHT will be activated automatically throughout the night. If the unit senses movement (at night) it activates the BRIGHT LIGHT for as long as it senses the movement and DIMS automatically 30 seconds after it no longer senses any movement.

perfect for the job These may not be the most versatile or longest-lasting solar motion-detecting lights you can buy, but they are/were perfect for my application.The body of the light is sheet aluminum, as you can easily see from the picture. There are two screw holes for mounting, which is adequate. They don’t weight much – probably less than a pound.The bottom side is all plastic, but that’s fine as it should not be exposed (much) to the elements. The only thing I fear durability-wise is that the heat of the Oklahoma sun will eventually turn the plastic brittle, but if they last for a couple of seasons I will feel I have my money’s worth.After charging for one day in the sun, I mounted mine and they are working just as advertised. Mine are mounted about 8-9′ off the ground and activate within a similar radius from the light. When the light senses that it is dark (dusk), it comes on in an ‘energy saving’ mode (low light) until activated. Then it lights up in its brightest mode, which gives good light for 10 feet or so. If there is no further motion detected, it goes back to ‘low light’ mode in 30 seconds. There is no adjustment for any of this, but it works pretty good for what I need it for (taking my dogs out in the yard at night) and I’m quite satisfied with my purchase. If it lasts for a year or more, I’ll be a happy camper. I’ve already invested in two more – hope the price stays reasonable ($23 with Amazon Prime)
Great Light! I am very pleased with this light and have ordered a second one — now that I finally figured out how to turn it on (it was apparently shipped in the “off” position, so at first I thought it was dead upon arrival).I am using it as a front door light. The front of my house gets direct sunlight for about 4 hours per day. It works great, even on cloudy days. I was able to install it by slipping it into the siding, didn’t need to use the screws to mount it. This way I could try it mounted in different places. However I recommend using the screws to properly mount it when feasible.The light is pretty dim until it detects motion and then it brightens adequately for my use (illuminates the front stoop for nightime entry). I have no issues with the motion detection. It brightens as I approach my front door, and dosn’t seem to be triggered by anything else. When I used the regular front stoop light in the past, it was swarming with moths and other insects, several of which ended up flying inside when I opened the door. This dim LED light does not attract insects at all.By using this, I am able to keep the front stoop light off, and keep the bugs outside. It will also provide a small savings on my electric bill.
