The hinge pins did not go into the receiving tubes smoothly- the paint seemed a bit too thick, finally beat them in while slightly bending the brackets.(3) the opening force is bothersome tough. We have a very smooth operating gate (that was the issue- so smooth that even the tiny closing spring hinge force made it slam slam slam) and this device sort of catches (pushes back) after the initial few inches of gate opening, then is tough to push for half of gate opening, then gets easier at full openso, all-in-all, I told my wife, look, it may last a day or it may last ten years. For the one-hour installation bother, it was probably worth it to try it before getting the Rixson. If it fails, it's in the trash and order the Rixson anyway. Alternative is a nifty looking device in the UK http://www.gatecontrolgear.com and they will ship to US. They quoted me GBP 135.00 plus GBP 67 shipping (what is that, about $300 total). Now I also see maybe Lockey TB400 from smarthome may be offering a similar or same device in US $174 maybe that is much better idea.The device rated here seems to be the same as “Hi-Lift KS 950”
