Great DIY landscaping lighting for the money I had been struggling with too cheap outdoor lights from big box home improvement stores. They would work for awhile, but inevitably collect water in the base socket after a big rain and trip my GFCI knocking out the lights and the timers they were set on.I wanted individual lights that were rated for wet weather use, but I didn’t want the type of lights that would be strung together and then operate off of some sort of transformer box. So, I went the route of individual lights and lots of good extension cords. Not the most elegant solution, but the cords are hidden nicely by my landscape mulch and I feel I have a good bit of flexibility in rearranging them if I wish.So after balancing price and reader reviews, I decided to go with these Cooper 75W halogens. I was concerned about the lights being bright enough to light up my palm trees (live in Florida) and, of course, was dubious as to how water-resistant they would be. When I received my shipment (quickly and properly as is my customary experience with Amazon), the first thing I looked at was how these lights were sealed off from the elements. The whole unit is encased in sturdy metal and the only place where water would be an issue is the chamber where the light bulb is housed. However, the screw-on lid and protective glass make a nice tight seal. My confidence in the lights increased. So, long review short, I bought a half-dozen of these lights and put them in almost two months ago. We have had above average rain since I put them in and no problems so far! They have stood up to the rain with no leaks or GFCI tripping. They light up my palm trees exactly as I wish – not too dim and bright enough. They’re green and for the most part blend in with my ground cover or are unobtrusive if standing by themselves. They adjust nicely for the angle desired. For the money spent and the effects that I get – can’t be beat.
Change in design I had a Cooper light, model sp100 75W halogen. It was several years old and needed to be replaced. It was a good light so I ordered the exact same model number. The problem was that the old light had a light sensor that automatically turned the light “off” and “on” at “dawn” and “dusk”; the new light (exact same model number) does not have that feature. It is still a great light; I just had to purchase a dawn and dusk plug-in controller.
Quality product. No surprises, as advertised. This is a good quality product, well made and effective. I use it to light up my U.S. flag at night.
