The Fargesia robusta is a great choice for a narrow, non running bamboo screen. The robusta has nice, dark green foliage and culms. Very sun and heat tolerant, it could use some afternoon shade in very hot areas. In Eugene, Oregon we grow ours in ful sun. We can get over 100f for a few days in a row.
