The concrete leading up to our front door was all cracked and buckled so I decided to break it up and do something different.

What we came up with was this interesting design.  The hardest part was breaking up the old concrete.  The previous homeowner had poured it into place and in some places it was over 10 inches thick!

Some basic (but hard) work and you can turn an old entryway into a new one.

Unfortunately I have lost the rest of the pictures to this post (when the website crashed), but fortunately someone had pinned one picture of the project on Pinterest and I found it there.

Hopefully there is enough info in the picture that you can figure out how to do something like this yourself if you want.

  1. A base of good sand that you can compact.
  2. Landscape/Weed fabric
  3. Stepping stones or pavers of some sort.
  4. Gravel to fill in the rest.  We used red lava rock.

The basics of the project are pretty easy, but the labor was back breaking at times.

I wondered how well everything would stay in place over time, but it’s been three years now and it still looks good.  This home entryway project has stood the test of time and we are glad we did it.
