A little on the large side, but works well. After the motion operated switch that had been controlling the external house lights started not working in wet/damp weather, I decided to replace it.The first replacement that I bought was a total failure. Even on its lowest sensitivity setting it continually switched the lights on with even the lightest of breezes. There are very few options available (at least in the US) with Heath Zenith being almost the only one available. However, these seem to have been moved from a cheap Chinese manufacturer to an ultra-cheap Chinese manufacturer and the quality control seems non existent. After some research the Hubbell motion detector switch looked lke a possibility.Ordered it from Amazon and waited for delivery. When it finally arrived, it very nearly almost went straight back. The packaging had very obviously been re-sealed, and without much care and attention at that. I opened the box, and the unit, although clean, had obviously been installed and then removed (clamp-marks on wires etc.).There were also no wire nuts and the usual bits and pieces you expect with something like this. The instruction leaflet was there though.Since I really needed this working, I decided to try it out anyway, and only return it if I had to.Well, it actually works well. Good immunity to wind and vegetation movement, wide angle detection etc.Probably works better than the old unit. The only other thing worth mentioning is that it is some what large. Its long, and sticks out much more than either of its predecessors. I will forgive this, because it actually works very well.
Poorly Made Product – Look for Other Alternatives Purchased this Hubbell motion sensor on-line and had it shipped to my home. The product and packaging looked new but the the ends of the multi strand connector wires were all soldered to create a single strand which I thought was odd. Also, the wire nuts referred to in the instructions were nowhere to be found.Anyway, I removed the old non-working sensor and replaced it with the Hubbell, following the directions carefully. It was really pretty simple to hook-up, not rocket science, and I have had experience installing many other sensors, but no Hubbells before. When installed during the daytime it went immediately into test mode as described in the documentation. The testing function worked just fine as the light swithched on and off several times during the five minute test period as the sensor detected motion (me moving in the driveway). Once nightfall came, it was a whole different story. The sensor detected motion and turned the lights on OK, but when the five minute on time elapsed, it started flicking the lights on and off repeatedly without stopping, instead of just turning them off when the motion ceased. My neighbors thought I was putting on a light show. The next day I disconnected the the wiring, checked everything against the instruction sheet, and connected the wires again as described in the instructions. There was no change in the outcome, the lights continued to blink on and off at night instead of just shutting off. To make matter worse: (1) there was almost no troubleshooting info in the documentation, (2) there was no phone number to call for technical assistance, and (3) the Hubbell website also lacked any Q&A about the product or a tech support link.I have wasted more time than I really planned on this sub-standard product and would advise other potential buyers to BEWARE. This product is on a par with the Heath Zenith junk that I have also had the misfortune of buying in the past. The RAB units seem to work the best but they don’t last forever and cost a bit more to boot. Anyway, this Hubbell is going back as fast as I can send it. Good luck with yours if you decide to buy.
Now this is more like it! I struggled for a long time with the competitor’s product. It got stuck in the on mode in the rain, in the wind and in the cold. I was frustrated to no end, but when I saw the reviews on this Hubbell from all the great consumers who take the time to write a review I knew it must be the right motion sensor for me. Great product! Thanks Hubbell!
