GREAT firepit camping companion! (with mod) Great one-handed log grabber (if you have average to large hands), however it requires a mod to be perfect. This doesn’t have any kind of spring return so it requires you to pull it back and forth to grab and release a log which is very difficult one-handed. So…I attached a spring that I purchased at the hardware store for $1.XX to the handle and then to a 3/16″ hole I drilled part way down the shaft of the main tube. Perfect! It now releases the log automatically when you release…
Rugged and just what I needed. I use this to pick up firewood near the ground and load it on the cart to bring in the house. Because I have a bad back it makes this task pleasurable instead of painful. At first I picked the firewood, put it in my hand, then the cart. Soon I learned that I could just pick the firewood and transfer it directly to my cart. I can transport the grabber by hanging it on my cart as I go out or as I bring wood in.
