Consistent and reliable, if you like how it’s calibrated, which is highly variable The advantage of mercury in a glass tube is that each individual thermometer is CONSISTENT, but maybe not calibrated to read the correct number of degrees. So if your house is 70, and this reads 68, you will know that each time this one thermometer reads 68, your house is 70.Based on looking at lots of these on the rack at Walmart, each one is a different temperature, with a range of at least 5 degrees!! Dual Purpose This serves a dual purpose in giving temperature in both Celcius and Farenheit with large black letters against a white background making it easy to see. In addition it shows the humidity level with an easy to read dial. I tested the accuracy of the thermometer versus a more expensive one and it is accurate.
