Great! Fabulous! Until….. I was one of the first to purchase one of these systems in late 2008. I purchased the 4’x8′. It arrived in early 2009, it was easy to put together, although it does require two people to do so. To add to the experience I began adding accessories …. I installed a drip and sprayer system into it. A ‘no worry’ event so I wouldn’t have to be around to water during critical periods. And to overcome late day shade issues (related to its placement on our property, I added grow lights attached to the center upper bar. Perfection!Since early 2009, once we had all the veges growing and sprouting and such …it’s proved itself to be a wonderful experience. More importantly, to ensure healthy fast growing crops I used high quality soil. We’ve had no hassles with weather, yard critters and few insects (with the exception of aphids) resulting in massive quantities of veges. In late 2010, once they FINALLY became available I also purchased (2) growing trays that rest upon the upper frame supports. A wonderful addition to deal with so you can start seedlings and rotate crops with ease or place potted plants on these trays to protect them. But the fun stopped there….As time went on the screens developed significant wear and began to rip in different areas. The Velcro that attaches the screens began to lose its grip. And the heavy duty plastic, (an option that isn’t sold with most units but I purchased with it), meant to protect the plants from cold or as a wind barrier, also began to break down and fall apart. I expected this to happen. Sun, wind, cold, ect does that to materials and plastic and I more than understand these items won’t last forever but…..You can not find replacements anywhere! No where! Not one single local store nor online retailer has them available and many don’t even know how to get them. So, I ask, what’s the point if you can’t sustain this type of garden without its critical components?!? You can’t ! Furthermore, even if I were to get these replacement parts it appears that one must disassemble much of the unit to get them back into their respective positions.I eventually did come across the major distributor for the Grow Camp. They are STC, based in NY. When I called I was treated rudely and irresponsibly. And all because I called to inquire about replacement parts. The answer I received was, “What’s the big deal? You’ve owned it for almost 4 yrs, just buy another Grow Camp system”.Right! Don’t think so…..So beware! Think about how long you intend to garden using this product. It has lots of positives but it’s biggest downfall is lack of replacement parts.
GREAT FOR 1-2 SEASONS Took longer than expected to put together. Grew veggies very well for 1 1/2 years. now screens and clear covering breaking down. not durable and not worth the effort!
great Where I live, the “critters” are likely to get into your garden. This unit solved my problem. The netting is kept in place with velcro and is protective. No critter got into this. Safe from deer and more. Also, I only needed to weed this one time all summer. The net kept the weeds out as well. They say you can start seedlings in Feb with this. We’ll see. I got mine in May, so this coming Feb will be my first attempt with seedlings. Note this thing takes a LOT of dirt. I have a double unit (4′ x 8′). Some people have complained about setting it up, but I thought the picture instructions were accurate. For me, the hardest thing setting it up was to get the ground level; I live in a hilly area. Some advice: follow their picture instructions precisely. I added a few connectors where I thought they should go, even though the directions did not show any there. Later in the assembly process, I discovered those connectors not only weren’t necessary, but were in the way. Thankfully, they included some extra connectors, so I didn’t run out. I am pleased with my purchase.
