Huge Improvement over the original… ** Updated 3/30/2014Well, after 3 months, one of my Ultra Pocket Hoses bit the dust… to be fair, it met its demise when the gardener accidentally nicked it with a shovel, piercing the outer cloth material… the hose burst at that point a couple of hours later… 🙁 The other one is still going strong, and I am still please enough with the performance, that I returned the damaged one to Home Depot, and they very graciously exchanged it for a new one… so I guess I will still continue my experiment and use of the Pocket Hose, because it did last, save for the untimely Death by Shovel. The 25 footer is nearly 2 months in service now… so I am still giving it 4 stars… I am totally spoiled with the lightweight ease and convenience of the product! Also of note, I noticed on the package of the new Pocket Hose Ultra that I just got from HD that the instructions say specifically now that you should store it indoors when not in use to prolong the life of the hose…Okay… back out to the garden I go…——————-***Updated 3/7/14 and 2/25/14… Still going strong! (see below)I ordered and received the new Ultra Pocket hose a couple of weeks ago. I was happy to find that it really does seem to be much more well-constructed than the original… I love the lightness, compact size, portability, and convenience of the Pocket Hose… I have arthritis in my hands, and I also have a very large yard in the Hollywood Hills, so lots of slopes and steps and decks on different levels to negotiate to water plants in containers, so the ease of use of the Pocket Hose made me an instant convert… unfortunately, as many of us discovered, the original design left much to be desired. I have had them last as much as a few months, or in a couple of cases, just a few hours before they either burst at the seams, or the fabric tore, or the place where the fabric and nozzle connected would disintegrate or burst, or the plastic connector itself would crack or break…Like many other people, I loved the design and ease of use of the Pocket Hose so much that I was in a kind of denial that such a great invention could really be made so poorly! After buying and owning about a dozen different brands and sizes of Pocket Hoses, I came to the conclusion that much of the problem came from the fact that the inner hose material was too thin/weak… and also very susceptible to UV (sun) rays, which seem to deteriorate the material… and the outer fabric material was also too thin, and also did not protect the inner material from UV rays… and the plastic connectors were just crap.So far, it seems that the new Ultra Pocket Hose has addressed these issues… they claim that it is 3x stronger, and that the fabric has been designed to protect the inner hose from UV rays…And from looking at it, I think that it just may be true: The fabric is a dark green with a faint yellowish/beige striping that they call the “Solar Stripe Shield” which they say “protects Pocket Hose Ultra from damaging UV rays and extends the life of the hose.” They go on to say that “The improved, super durable Pocket Hose Ultra is built to last for daily, heavy-duty use, and even comes with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE so if it leaks even a drop, you’ll get your money back!” Yadda, yadda…Being ever the optimist, I bought the new, improved Ultra Hose as soon as it came available… FYI, Amazon is the most econimical place to buy it, even if you want to buy two of them, due to their high “shipping and handling” charges on the other websites…Okay, so I have been putting the hose through its paces… I gave it to my gardener for working in the yard for 3 days this past week… I encouraged him to use it for everything he was doing… using it while dragging it across pavement, up and down stairs and hillsides… leaving it on at full pressure while he did other work… left it lying in the sun…pulled and stretched it across the drive to get it to reach…In other words, he gave it much more abuse than I probably would have… and so far so good!I have also been using it to water my potted plants on the various decks and patios, and I am so happy to report no problems… I am keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to hold up! I hope we have a winner!I will post an update in a few weeks and let you know how the test is going… stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed!***UPDATE: Still going strong! I have been using the hose almost daily for nearly 2 months now, and my gardener continues to put it through its paces… I will say that I am being more careful not to leave the hose lying out in direct sun after using… usually I leave it attached to the faucet, in the shade, with the spray attachment left in the open position after turning off the water so that the hose is sure to drain all the…
