Surprisingly bright and long lasting solar-powered light I have seen many different inexpensive solar lights that basically glow with a very feeble light for a couple hours and then go dark. They are not effective and I had become discouraged with solar powered lights. The packaging for this solar light caught my eye because it was touting the fact that it was 30x brighter than other lights. I decided to give the light a try and am completely happy with the light. It has exceeded my expectations and produces a significant amount of light that lasts for many hours. The solar panel is much larger than the el-cheapo solar powered lights and the battery is also much larger in capacity. There is a power level switch that lets you change between full power and a reduced power mode, for extended light output albeit at a lower brightness. One thing that deserves particular attention though is the plastic spike. You must be very careful that you don’t force this into hard ground or rocky soil as it can break easily. Better to create the hole first with a screwdriver or other suitable object before jamming the plastic spike into the ground. These are more expensive than many less capable solar powered lights, but there is a reason for that. They produce much more light and last many hours before going dark. The only unknown for me right now is how they will perform in the winter months when the sun isn’t out much during the day and whether the cold will affect bettery life. I’ll update my review if necessary.
Better Than Expected These worked so well, I bought another pack. It’s a high quality product that’s puts out an impressive amount of light. Large trees block the light from our street lamps leaving our house in the dark. Now it looks like we have landscape lighting.
Okay for Solar Lighting I ordered two “‘Malibu 8501-0604-01 Solar Spotlights,” and when I opened the first one, it was broken at the neck. I put it out in the sun all day to test it to see how the emitted light was before opening the other one, and it did not work at all that night. So, I sent them both back for a refund. I got the “Yards & Beyond: Premier Series – 2 Pack Solar Spotlight Set – Black” as well, and although they are currently twice the price, they are metal and more worth it and they emit a good amount of light for a solar light. Although the Yards lights are better quality, the light emitted is that bluish hue you get from LED lights. Of the two, I suggest the Yards & Beyond. However, I will eventually go to corded low voltage landscape lighting.
