Here’s a better solution These connectors are very unreliable and in time will fail. To improve the reliability of your low voltage lighting try this trick. Cut and strip the main and fixture wires at the desired location. Select the correct size wire nut to connect all the wires together. Before you actually screw the wire nut on, fill the inside with petroleum jelly (Vaseline), then screw them on. You connection will be permanent and water proof!
I’ve had constant problems with these I bought a Malibu landscaping light a year ago that used these (or their identical twins) to splice the wires from the light to the wires from the transformer. The intent is to splice the wires together by piercing both wires with a small blade.A month or two after installing the light it went out. These connectors were the culprit so I took them off and tried again in a different spot. They lasted a year w/o issues but the light just went out again and sure enough, these connectors were the issue so this time I just cut them out completely, crimped the wires together, waterproofed it as best I could, and buried it in the mulch. This is a great idea that just doesn’t seem to work well.
