Absolutely Great!!! I was a bit leery ordering this item as it was less expensive than others I had seen and I needed two of them quickly. One was to have been a gift for a friend. I had visions of them arriving late, crushed, cracked, broken or missing pieces…not operable or just generally cheesey in quality and performance. I WAS ASTOUNDED! They arrived quickly. Packaged perfectly. Boxes and lamps all in super condition. They were very easy to assemble and the weight of the batteries did a great job of stableizing the whole thing. As a light source, this little lamp has far exceeded all of my expectations. The 2nd lamp was given the next day and has been praised and commented upon on an almost daily basis since the gifting. I would purchase this Dorcy lamp again and have no qualms recommending it to everyone. It is wonderful when you lose your electricity and it gives me a real sense of security. You can read well by this light and see for a good distance. I’m sure it would be exceptional as an outside light on your picnic table in the summer also! The best quality for the money and greatest gift I’ve purchased in years.
There’s nothing there in the dark… …that isn’t there in the daylight. Yeah, sure…tell that to the chupacabre on the patio. The Dorcy 41-1016 Indoor/Outdoor Table Lamp is a very reliable companion when the lights go out. With the shade down, it’s a mini table lamp that you can read by. With the shade off, it’s as bright and straightforward as a flashlight.Living in earthquake country, I learned the hard way that electricity can disappear for weeks at a time. My collection of battery powered lighting was a lifesaver–for me and for my neighbors–in 1994 when the Northridge Earthquake shook us into the stone age for two weeks. These little Dorcy lanterns provide sufficient light to eat and read by. For an average room, two would be sufficient to guarantee safe navigation and provide an instant feeling of comfort and security. The light is not harsh, it won’t give you eyestrain, but is adequate for keeping away monsters (even the notoriously tenacious Closet Monster and its opportunistic cousin, The Thing Under the Bed.I do not go camping because camping is done out of doors where the bugs are; however, I do go sailing now and then. These lanterns are perfect for a small boat, providing a good level of illumination for a compact cabin, and especially for enjoying a drink on deck while being transfixed by a skyful stars. You get enough light so you don’t trip and fall into the sea, but not enough to interfere with your stargazing. More important, it is essential for exploring the wilds of a marina in search of a restroom after dark. The light is broader and less forward-focused than a flashlight, so you see more of what is in front of you and on each side…thus reducing the possibility of stepping off of the narrow wooden walkway and straight into the toothy maw of whatever is lurking beneath the surface of the water.I urge even non-outdoor types to consider acquiring some sort of emergency lighting. If the lights are out because of an event that leaves you with shaky hands and a tendency to jump at the slightest noise, candles are not recommended. A Dorcy lantern is just the thing. Durable, compact, convenient. Who wants to cower in the dark listening to the patter of little zombie feet or the snurfling of werewolves at the door? For your own peace of mind, Let There Be Light.
Dorcy lantern is great My family and I have used this lantern on camping trips and during power blackouts. It won’t set the tent on fire. It is easy to carry and operate, is a good source of light, and should be part of an emergency kit.
