Aquaponics is simply the combination of fish and plants. Perhaps calling it “Fish & Plants in Harmony” could be a good option but it doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.
You need to keep the fish in a dedicated area. The water containing their waste products is pumped through a filter device and then to your plants.
This ensures that your plants get all nutrients they need. A perfectly run aquaponics system needs fish food and some nutrients that the fish can’t provide. The reward is fish and accelerated plant growth.
Aquaponics is not a new discovery. In fact, the Aztecs were known to have created a system of islands on canals. Each island was dedicated to plant growth with the aid of the canal water and the mud which was full of nutrients. This made the ideal growing media for the plants, which flourished. That was 1,000 AD!
In this book, we highlight more information about:
• What aquaponics is
• The benefits of aquaponics
• Why it fits your home
• The important elements and the growing medium
• The setups you can use
• Coming up with your own aquaponic garden
Enjoy the journey.
