Form and function. I bought one for a around thanksgiving as a Christmas present for my wife / house hold. From a catalog shop. I bought it as a emergency light, that could pose as indoor furniture. Unlike most emergency flashlight and lamps, it overcomes one of the overlooked issues, where do you put it to light the room. Being a pole lamp with a adjustable pole, it is very adjustable, it fits in very naturally. It’s been sitting in the corner of the living room. And it’s been working great. It is nice enough to fit in with our modest décor, and it does a great job lighting our living room. My wife frequently reads buy it on the sofa It was fantastic during our last power outage. It function much like a pole lamp would, and I would easily take it on a outing as a excellent civilized light source. We help with a Church “camping” trip at the Fairfax Lake campgrounds. And I am looking forward to having it handy to pick up and bring along so we can set it up in the food prep area.As for weather resistance, While it has some built in weather resistance, it’s not sealed for diving. The various parts are designed for being out doors, and it will tolerate a some light rain with no impact, and the lamp shade does enclose the electronics. Leaving it out, in a moderate weather conditions is what it is designed to do. I am sure like most things, if you keep it inside and take care of it, it will last a long time.It comes in 3 parts, that plug together. The bottom gets a Large collar nut, and the top a thumb screw to hold it together. It is readily assembled if you have sufficient mechanical skill to rotate the shaft into the correct position. (it has a D shape, and mating socket.) the package had some dire warnings about assembly that seems silly to me. The top was installed by rotating it on the end of the pole until I could feel that the socket and top were lined up.The pole is extended and contracted by tightening and loosing the collar nuts on the shaft. The bottom nut is what holds the pole to the thick lamp base, where the D-cell batteries are housed. (remember to buy batteries). When the nuts are loose you can telescope the pole and raise or lower the lamp.
Love it! First off, I am giving this five stars because it fits the bill perfectly for my specific needs. It has definite limitations and isn’t the most attractive piece out there. But I needed a non corded light source for a large, very long and low covered patio, lightweight enough for my senior aged mother to move around easily, and something that wouldn’t blind the neighbors. This did the trick. It is not intended to be left in a rainstorm, provide enough light to luminate your whole backyard, or last for 25 years. But there are simply very few options in the outdoor lighting category, on a budget, that are as versatile as this model. Our patio is as low as 4 feet at its lowest and 8 feet at it’s highest. We can move this around wherever we’re gathering and adjust the brightness. (Basically the lamp has a high and low setting even tho that’s not really how it is described.) But more importantly, we can telescope down to use while sitting at a small table or bring it back up at for drinks around the bistro table. We have run ours nearly every night since December and here in mid March we’re still on the same set of batteries. It is a lovely shade of copper and tho it does not read ‘expensive’, it is not cheaply made nor look like a flimsy throwaway. For super high moisture conditions or hard freezes, I bring it inside but normally this is found every night on the patio and has proven one of my most practical Amazon purchases ever. The soft light does not attract too many bugs…and here in TX that is always a good thing! For a very adjustable, easily stored, and gentle light source, I cannot recommend enough.
