Best splitter there is At the reviewer who said soft steel is bad for a splitter, I would say if you have steel that is too hard it will crack. If you are wailing away at it with a sledge hammer it is supposed to mushroom, that is what keeps it from cracking. For example, cold chisels have soft steel where you hammer them, and hard steel at the tip. That is how these wedges are constructed. These wedges are high grade tool steel. The edge is sharp, and the wedge is long so it splits the log long before it gets stuck. At the people who say the star wedges are better, they are shorter, made in China or Mexico from crap steel, and come from the factory blunted. Pay $2 more and get the one and only wedge made in the USA.
A great wedge! Estwing rocks! I just wish they made more stuff instead of such a limited product line. Anyway, this wedge is efficient and does the job. I use it to split rounds about 18″ in diameter and about 16-18″ long. It usually splits the logs before the wedge even gets embedded up to those little things that look like dormers.
Great wood splitter i tried this splitter on almost green wood 16 inches across and it still split it can’t wait to try it on seasoned wood this fall! Great product.
