The easily accessible high-performance axial cam pump provides maximum heat dissipation for extended life and the easy to pull trigger reduces fatigue. The pump is located well above the ground, eliminating the need to kneel down to make hose connections. Backed with a 3 year limited warranty. Founded in 1959, Generac has earned a reputation as the company home and business owners turn to when the power goes out. The first to engineer affordable home standby generators, along with the first engine developed specifically for the rigors of generator use, Generac now sells more home standby generators than all of our competitors combined. We have brought this same level of commitment and quality to our pressure washer products. Our customer research has led us to engineer our pressure washers from the ground up, to meet your specific demands. Generac manufactures the widest range of power products in the marketplace including portable, RV, residential, commercial and industrial generators. Generac also operates three large factories which employs thousands of workers in the American Midwest.
Long known for its portable generator design, Generac introduces its lineup of commercial-grade pressure washers, enabling you to power wash your deck, prep for painting, remove tough concrete stains, and more at home and on the job site. The Generac 5993 provides 3,100 PSI of power and 2.8 gallons per minute (GPM) for a cleaning power rating of 8400.
It’s powered by a Generac overhead valve (OHV) horizontal-shaft engine, the largest available for its respective pressure rating. Generac OHV engines come standard with low-oil shutdown to protect and prolong the life of the engine. Both the engine and pump are perfectly balanced over the axle and wheels for almost effortless maneuverability, regardless of terrain. Generac pro models also offer durable, welded roll-cage style frames that protect both the engine and pump from damage.
It comes with an ergonomically designed professional-grade spray gun, which features a unique cushion grip that reduces fatigue by minimizing vibration. The innovative easy-to-pull spray trigger can be held with a minimum of effort, and the Quick-Click nozzle tips are easy to replace. Additionally, this pressure washer’s gun comes with an adjustable side handle for additional comfort and control when cleaning up high, down low, or anywhere in between.
This power washer is backed by a three-year limited warranty.
Note for California residents: This model is not CARB-compliant. Units sold to California must be CARB-compliant.
What Is PSI and GPM?
Short for “pounds per square inch,” PSI is a measure of the water pressure coming out of the power washer. A typical garden hose dispenses water at about 30-40 PSI, and a coin-operated car wash provides about 700 PSI. A power washer, by contrast, typically dispenses water at several thousand PSI. Another important factor in power washers is GPM, which stands for “gallons per minute” and describes how much water is flowing through the pressure washer.
Together, they provide your power washer’s cleaning power. Multiply PSI (which gives you the power to lift dirt and grime) by GPM (which provides the necessary quantity of water to wash it away) to get the cleaning power rating. The higher the number, the greater the cleaning power.
Here are some application examples with how much cleaning power (PSI and GPM) you’ll need to get the job done.

Nice quality but a few little design annoyances. I bought this Generac 5993 power washer a couple of weeks ago. I like it but Generac appears to need some attention focused on their packaging and shipment of these units. The first one arrived in a box that looked like it had been shipped via Afghanistan and soaked in oil. Based on reviews here on Amazon I had a pretty good idea what had happened. I opened the top and sure enough the pump was dry. That was the pump oil coating the box and everything inside. So, I rejected that shipment and after some hesitation, I reordered.Generac ships the engine dry with a bottle of oil to be added during setup. Why not do the same with the pump oil and avoid what appears to be a common source of costly returns and a perception of quality issues? The pump oil is user serviceable through a cap on top of the pump. But because I didn’t want to deal with cleanup of everything inside the box and I’d have to go find 30 weight non-detergent oil which isn’t all that common, back it went. The second unit arrived without a problem in about four days and in fine shape. Total lost work time, one weekend. C’est la vie. Setup was pretty easy and took maybe 15 minutes. Remove box. Rotate handle into place and lock with retaining pin. Install the hose hanger with two allen screws and the supplied allen wrench. Fill the crankcase with the supplied engine oil. Check the oil level in the pump. Fill the gas tank. And insert the soap tube on it’s brass nipple. Aside from that it was just a matter of inserting the 5 color coded spray tips in their color designated holders on the handle, assembling the spray wand and hanging the hose on the unit. The engine is a Generac design which is a bit different from the typical Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, or Kohler engines that seem to be ubiquitous on power equipment for the past 30 years. It originated from Generac’s power generation products and so it’s designed for constant running at a fixed speed which suits this application. And since generators run unattended for long periods, this one has a low oil shutdown feature to prevent damage to the engine, a nice bonus. To start the engine, there are four controls. An on/off switch that controls spark. A fuel shut off that needs to be opened. A choke. And a throttle. The fuel shutoff is a nice addition for storage. It allows you to close the valve and run the carburetor empty of gas to prevent gumming up the works. Then you can just add some fuel stabilizer to the gas tank without having to worry about empyting it completely. The engine is a modern OHV design just like the Hondas, Subarus, Briggs, etc. It’s fairly quiet. And I got about 2 hours of use before I had to refill the metal gas tank. More importantly, it has plenty of power for this power washer. I hooked up the water supply, attached the hose and wand and fired it up. It started on the first pull. The frame is stout and well designed to protect all the components. Maybe too well. The gas tank fill cap is located right in the middle of the frame. It’s almost impossible to pour from a modern “no spill” gas can without sloshing fuel all over the place. The frame forces you to hold the can high over the opening. So, I had to use a big funnel to pour the gas reliably. The frame is not totally welded as indicated by some reviewers. The are a few bolts securing two side rails and the handle that you’ll want to check periodically for vibration induced loosening.Critical reasons why I decided to spend a few more bucks on this “commercial grade” power washer.ENGINE – the 212cc Generac engine was a little larger than the 190cc Honda or 160cc Subaru engines on competing units. More displacement means a bit more torque.PUMP – the triplex pump with ceramic coated pistons is widely acknowledged to be much more reliable than axial cam pumps found on cheaper units. Triplex pumps can also be rebuilt when internal seals become worn whereas axial cam pumps are a disposable item. So, long term cost of ownership may actually be lower with the more expensive pump. And this one has an automatic “unloader” valve to relieve excess heat and pressure if the engine is left to idle too long without releasing pressure via the wand. It’s a little extra insurance for the expensive pump that’s the heart of this machine.HOSE – this comes with 35 ft of high quality heavy rubber hose while cheaper units generally have 25-30 ft of smaller diameter and lighter weight poly hose.WAND – the wand on this Generac is a couple of steps above the cheaper units and very comfortable to work with for extended periods.PRESSURE – if I was going to own one of these things I wanted one that could do anything I’d reasonably expect to encounter around the home. 3000 PSI seems to be the sweet spot for just about any home use.VALUE – At this price…
