Installation Problems – as in Won’t install on Vista This product won’t install – by design. End of Review.Apparently Punch has substantial copy protection that doesn’t play nice with Vista and the UAC so, expect to wait 40 or 50 minutes (watching your disc spin) before it even thinks about starting to load, then fail. Here’s the latest from Punch:—-Installing Punch! ProductsWhen you try installing your software you receive an error and are unable to continue with the installation.Windows VistaWhen installing software in Windows Vista, the installation may take 15 minutes or more to start, so please be patient. You can perform the steps below to alleviate the waiting time. * Turn off the User Account Control (UAC) * Reboot your computer into Safe Mode * Try to install your software * Once the software is installed you can reboot into Normal Mode—-(FYI: to boot into safe mode, hold on boot up)…and I tried all that but, it makes me really nervous to have to disable the protections included in Vista that allow me to uninstall, avoid trojans/viruses, and prevent the installation of the root kit they’re obviously wanting to put on my PC.And be warned, I know most people have internet access, but if you don’t: registration requires and active connection and you’ll have to wait for Punch to email you a serial number before you can actually save/print/etc.The program looks neat and I’d love to try it but, since Punch seems to have gone out of their way to make the program impossible to install (I’m 4 hours into the annoying process now…), it has to go back.Note to Punch! software engineers: you may think the ‘anti-installation’ copy protection feature is really great but, in my eyes, it makes the entire product completely useless – defective is probably an apt description.
I would not buy this again I would not buy this product again, if I had the option. I took the chance despite some of the reviews I read, but it is not worth it. I thought the more I learned about the software, the better it would get, but it is just the oposite. The more I learn, the more I realize it is not worth the money. For example, I designed a house and the program generated the roof automatically. Great! Right? The roof was pitched in completely random directions and when I deleted it and drew in my own custom roof, the program went back and drew it’s random roof over top of mine again. So now I have 2 roofs on the house. And noone can tell me how to turn off the automatic roof option. Also, noone at Punch ever imagined that someone would want to have a basement on their house. If you want to design a basement, you have to build your first floor on the “second level” and then artificially draw a grass colored floor on the outside of the house at the elevation of the second level. I would not buy this product again.
Doesn’t live up to expectations I purchased this after using the Better Homes & Gardens Home Designer Suite. At first, it looked like it had potential as it appeared to be much more flexible and feature laden. Unfortunately, it has too many problems. Simple things like selecting walls and moving them, copy and paste, and 3d walk-through are either poorly implemented or bug-laden. I was hoping to find a support release that would improve on what appears to be a first run, buggy release – but there is none.I searched their forums and they don’t even have a dedicated forum for this product. I contacted support and inquired about maintenance releases and dedicated product forums (like they have for their other products) and was told they have none and suggested I contact tech support. I don’t need to beta test software and spend time with tech support for basic functions that should be implemented properly – so I’m sending it all back for the money-back guarantee. Also, the green features appear to be “thrown in”. When clicking the special green icon, you just get a few tips that are mostly common sense. When you try to delve deeper, it’s just a link to a page Punch! made that has categories of external links to external sites on the internet that could be found using a search engine. As an aside, I’ve found TurboFloorplan from IMSI to be the best of the 3 programs I’ve tried – though I’m stilling learning it.
