Mixed emotions… I have mixed feelings about this product. I love its looks. It’s moderately well built. The stainless steel finish is somewhat worrisome though (we live just inland on the Oregon coast and I’ve been unsuccessful finding an outdoor fixture that will last more than 3-4 years here); the finish and the underlying steel seem a bit thin, but time will tell. Shipping is a big problem with this product, and it’s not Amazon’s or UPS’ fault — the manufacturer’s internal packaging is simply inadequate. The wire cage isn’t well supported in the box, works loose, and breaks the glass assembly, because the packing design relies on the wire cage remaining in position. I had to return 3 broken fixtures before I finally received the five unbroken ones — and the Amazon boxes were always in perfect shape. The mounting bolts to which the light assembly attaches were a different length in nearly each box, and all much longer than they needed to be. I had to cut several down. Most electrical boxes have two sets (and sizes) of mounting holes to attach a fixture’s cross-arm assembly; bolts are included for only one size. About half of my units arrived with a light sensor already wired in. I tested one of them — it didn’t work — but I didn’t want the feature to begin with. I’ll update this review in a year or so, if Amazon is still selling the units.Review Update: It’s Mar. 4, 2012. The lights have been installed for 6+ months, and there’s no need to wait a year to update the review — I don’t think they’ll be recognizable from all the rust by then. Succinctly, if you live in a moderately damp climate, these lights will rust, even if they’re not actually exposed to direct moisture. Yes, we live in coastal Oregon (though we’re nearly two miles inland) but all seven fixtures we installed are rusting. All of them are mounted high under roof eaves or under covered porches, and all stay dry. But they are all rusting. I’ve posted photos of two fixtures so you can decide for yourself. I’d lower my rating to 0 stars give my locale. If you live far inland, or in the arid southwest, these may work for you, but frankly, I can’t recommend them — period. Amazon let us down badly on this product.
Very nice stainless steel light. We just had a porch/patio installed and are trying to keep with a nautical theme. This light filled the bill exactly. We ordered the 12″ model. The size is in reference to the height NOT the diameter. It’s stainless steel with a glass globe. The glass globe is quite clear with no imperfections. Initially we put a 100 watt bulb in. WHOA NELLIE! That was way too bright. A 60 watt bulb should be sufficient. We replaced an existing porch light so installation was easy. You can have it mounted and throwing light within 30 minutes with common hand tools.Look above for a picture of our light installed.
Quality lacking Initially disappointed with the loose packing of each item. It is more delicate than you would expect for an outside light. More importantly, items are being returned because the globe cage rusts within days.
